Yet large sections of the French population do not have access to libraries, either because they are too far away or because they are too imposing, or too closed in on themselves.

Syria crisis

Since it began four year ago, the Syria crisis has forced more than 3 million people, out of which nearly half are children, from their homes and into neighboring countries such as Jordan and Lebanon. LWB and UNHCR are working on the implementation of the Ideas Box to assist these refugees. The first Ideas Box will be deployed in late 2014 in a camp close to the Syrian border, laying the groundwork for future, more extensive regional coverage in 2015.

African Great Lakes

LWB began the first trial pilots of the Ideas Box in the African Great Lakes region in February 2014. Three Ideas Box have been implemented in partnership with UNHCR in camps for Congolese refugees in Burundi: Musasa, Kavumu and Bwagiriza plus a mobile Ideas Box shared by two villages where repatriates have resettled (in Makamba), with the support of the UNDP.
